The corner shop

Corner stores have always been a stable of suburbia and this one on the corner of Charlotte and Elizabeth St not far from Ashfield Station is an excellent example of their evolution. Operated in the 1950s by the Young family is was a typical family run store supplying its overwhelmingly white population. This means that despite the Young family being Chinese Australian nothing in particular of Chinese cuisine or origin was sold. Fast forward to the present and the store is now not only run by a Nepalese family but they sell cuisine of Nepalese origin to a much more diverse Ashfield community.
